Which gives better game performance for my PC (Directx 9 or 10)?

I have a Dell XPS 400 with:

-Windows XP Media Center Edition

-Pentium D CPU 2.80GHz

-4 GB of Ram

-Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 with 1GB GDDR5 (Supports Directx 11)

Currently i have Directx 9, but i would like to upgrade to Directx 10. I know that Directx 10 and 11 were not developed for or supported on xp, but there are downloads that give me DX10 for xp. What gives me the best computer performance and why:

-Sticking with Directx 9

-Installing Directx 10 for XP

Also do the different version of Directx effect my graphics card or CPU's performance?

My graphics card supports Directx 11, does it run best on DX11 or do all versions run the same?

I am looking at running newer games such as Resident Evil 5, Dragon Age Origins, Crysis, etc.

Please don't tell me to upgrade to windows vista/7, i am planning on it but right now i want the best performance for what i currently have.

Thanks for your help!Which gives better game performance for my PC (Directx 9 or 10)?
Never happen. That D processor is old, outdated, and not dual core. Either be happy with what you have or get a better computer. You will have trouble with Windows 7 because of that outdated processor but it will run without the aero graphics and a few other things but slooowly. Direct X has very little to do with gaming performance anyway.Which gives better game performance for my PC (Directx 9 or 10)?
Have you run your anti-virus software over and over in hopes of your computer running faster, but never works. I'll give you another option to try.

Run disk de-fragment

Step1

In the bottom left hand corner of your screen there will be the "start" button. Click on it.

Step2

Move the mouse just up from the start button and hold the mouse cursor(arrow) over "all programs".

Step3

Another set of menus will appear, hold your mouse cursor over "accessories" .

Step4

Another set of menus will appear, hold your mouse cursor over "system tools".

Step5

A set of programs will appear, select "Disk Defragmenter".

Step6

When this screen pops up, select "defragment". When this screen pops up, select "defragment".

Step7

Now you have to wait for the defragmentation process which can take up to a couple of hours.

Step8

When finished, you can view the report if you wish. It tells you how much space you've opened up.
