I think he was exile prince. He's a bow user so can he use bows ?
Verric could only use crossbows that he had from the beginning.

you got to do the quest for him at the chantry then later on think act 2 after deep roads he will give you another quest and join you

When you get to Act 2 go into the Chantry, you will find him having an argument with the Grand Cleric.
