Why do fantasy games avoid pole weapons as if they have cooties?

I am just saying, I know that some games do have them, but when they are there they are all anachronistic and weird looking. The one game that I think needed spears the most was skyrim. I mean, its supposed to be set in the viking genre, but probably the most commonly used vikin weapon, the spear, was left out. Don't say that " they added it as dlc" but shouldn't they have put it in the original game to begin with? And I'm not talking about those retarded staffs from like wow and dragon age 2, but like spears or halberds. Why do video game companies have a problem with spears and halberds? Why do fantasy games avoid pole weapons as if they have cooties?
Skyrim would actually NOT benefit from spears whatsoever. Anyone who says it would, needs a serious check in game play and game design.

When you create unique weapons, they just need to be that. Unique. They can't just be like a sword with a different skin. THere has to be a distinct difference and advantage to using a spear over a sword. In Morrowind, the way the game was designed is they had a stat for slicing, blunt and stab. Some creatures were weak against stabs, where a spear was particularly strong and benefited the player. In Skyrim, those stats don't exist. So the only benefit would be that maybe it would have a longer reach, but then that's a "So what?"
